News this week

Thank you to the superb team who planned and organised the barbeque and everyone who worked so hard Friday, including the amazing job done of clearing away, so that school was ready for Monday morning; you are all enormously appreciated.

Well done to the pupils in Chestnut Class, whose performance of Theseus and the Minotaur, was exceptional. The acting and singing were excellent and the younger children watched the play in awe and admiration.

The children are looking forward to sharing their work with parents and families, either during their Open Classrooms this afternoon 2.45-3.15pm or when they bring books home over the next few days. PE kits are no longer needed at school before the end of term. If you have any stray reading books and library books at home, please would you return them to school tomorrow or Monday.

Term finishes for all children at 3.15pm next Tuesday. In this, the final newsletter for this term, thank you for your support this year and we look forward to the first day of the autumn term, which will be Wednesday 3rd September.

Message from Oxfordshire Fire & Rescue Service Road Safety Team -

The summer holidays are nearly upon us and hopefully the weather will mean that you will be able to enjoy being out and about with your children over the next few weeks.

It would be a great chance for you to use our Footsteps programme to begin to support your children in their journey to becoming safer, independent pedestrians and road users.

Our Footsteps guide will give you some ideas of how to begin to support your child in developing the decision-making skills that will help them become a pedestrian able to keep themselves safer when they eventually walk to school or a friend’s home independently.

If they are ill-prepared, children are more likely to be killed or injured in a road traffic incident, as seen by the fact that the number of child pedestrians injured rises significantly around 10 -12 years of age – the time at which they begin to go out unaccompanied by adults.

The Footsteps programme is simple to use as it can be carried out in normal everyday situations such as walking to school or to the local shops. Rather than telling children what to do, you are encouraged to ask lots of open questions to make the children think about the decisions they are making. Making these decisions safely, while in the company of a supporting adult, will mean they will be better prepared for dealing with roads and traffic once they begin going out on their own.

Learning to cope with traffic is a practical skill, which cannot be learnt in the classroom. As parents / carers, you are the best people to help your child develop this knowledge as you spend the most time out and about with them.

It is never too early to start talking to your child about road safety as, having a good understanding of road safety skills, could one day save their life.

Please follow the link to the Footsteps guide Footsteps and begin to give your children the skills and knowledge they will need to stay safer on our roads.

Have a wonderful and safe summer.

Message from the PTA

Thank you to everyone who came along to the summer BBQ last Friday. It was an enjoyable and successful evening (apart from all the wasps!).

A massive thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who helped with setting up, running stalls and clearing up at the end, especially Louise B and Gemma from Stonelily for their fabulous hair styling and Louise W for doing face painting. These stalls were never without a queue!

The biggest thanks of all goes to our super BBQers; Stephen, Alex and Justin who put in a sterling effort manning the BBQ in the 30 degree heat in order to feed us all.

We couldn't have done it without you all ❤️

Ice Lollies on Tuesday!!!

To celebrate the last day of term we'll be selling ice lollies in the front garden after school on Tuesday the 22nd July.

Emma will also be bringing along the preloved uniform for you to get stocked up for next term.

We are sad to be saying goodbye to Laura Smith who will be leaving the PTA team at the end of this term. A massive thank you to Laura for all the time and effort she has dedicated to helping us towards our fundraising goals over the last few years.

We are very pleased to be welcoming Jill Bali to the PTA team next term. We are looking forward to having you on board Jill.

Remember: Please be aware that we have children in school with serious food allergies. To ensure the safety of all of our children please avoid sending your child to school with anything that contains nuts this includes sandwiches containing peanut butter or chocolate spread.
