News this week
Throughout the year children spend lots of time learning outside the classroom and over the last week this has particularly been the case.
Children from Reception and Year 1 have been out at Hogshaw farm this morning, all classes enjoyed opportunities for reflection in Prayer Space activities on Tuesday and Wednesday in the Parish Hall, and Willow and Oak classes were at Waddesdon Manor yesterday.
All have been keen to report on their learning. Chestnut Class were very reflective, thinking about how some of their learning has helped them to develop first aid skills that they will be able to use throughout their lives.
IMPS report by Year 5- Chestnut class:
Sophia- On Monday 23rd June, Years 5 and 6 visited the Horton Hospital to take part in IMPS (Injury Minimisation Programme for Schools). When we arrived, we had to walk through A+E. Once we got to the teaching room, we watched a video on different injuries and how to deal with them. For example, if someone has a serious cut, you should put pressure on the wound to stop the blood. Then, we looked at an oxygen mask. After that, we learnt to perform CPR (except we did not do the mouth-to-mouth part – we haven’t been allowed to do this aspect since the pandemic) and how to use an AED machine. Finally, we got taught the recovery position.
Olivia- My favourite part was learning how to do CPR, so if there was a real emergency I could help as much as I can. We had to show a lot of resilience to carry on, even if we didn’t like the sight of something.
Sebastian- I liked learning how to use the AED machine. If the AED machine says you can give the unconscious person a shock, it will allow you to press the shock button (which is green with a lightning bolt on it).
Toby- Just 2 days after IMPS my friend fell of his bike and broke his elbow. My other friend and I had to perform First Aid on him. My friend put cold water on the wound and put pressure on it, whilst I went to get his mum. I’m glad we learned what to do in IMPS!
Edi- My favourite part was learning how to use the A.E.D machine and how to perform C.P.R because those are the important things in life you may need to do if a person has a heart attack.
Report by Year 2 and Year 3
