Learning outdoors with EYFS
Forest school activities
We are making paint in our forest school this afternoon. Gloopy green and brown with mud. We added some water to make it runnier.
My natural paintbrush is made from grass. Mine is made from rosemary. We used grass, rosemary and daisies. We like the rosemary best because they smell nice. We collected some things from the field. We saw a spider and a butterfly but you don’t usually see those in February. We rescued a ladybird this morning and put it in the bug hotel. We made camouflage colours with our paint.
We have some purple crocus flowers in our flowerbed.

We are reading a book called “Never mess with a pirate princess”. Our challenge this week is to make a pirate ship in the garden. This is our ship. We have a flag and a plank to walk.
Water safety information (and advice) from Poppy and Clara in Year 4
If someone was drowning the lifeguard would get in and help, or throw something in that helps them float like the red lifebelt which is on a pole at the water’s edge. They are usually located on a pole or hanging up near to the water’s edge.
If you feel that you are struggling in the water, you should try to float for a little while. If you are tiring when you are swimming, you should try sculling on your back because it uses less energy. Always call for help.
Never just plunge into water like a pond, lake, canal or river, or any other large area of water. Find out information about that specific place because it assures you about what is there, for example how deep it is, what the temperature is and what might be under the surface. In a pond, sometimes the vegetation might be making the water look more shallow than it is and it could be really deep. When water is murky it is difficult to see what is in the water.
We recommend that everyone learns to swim because it is good exercise and it might save your life if you ever fall in some water.

Just a reminder we have children in school with serious allergies please do not send your child in with items containing nuts, this includes chocolate spread, peanut butter and products containing a chocolate filling like Nutella or chocolate bars containing nuts. We have had a few occasions recently where we have found items have been sent into school in packed lunches which contain nuts.

Please come along to support us and stock up on some new reading material for your children.
