Welcome Year 2. 

Willow class website Term 5

In DT we will learn about freestanding structures.

In History, Year 2 will be learning about Significant Inventors and also about their inventions.

In Art, pupils will be learning about Ndebele geometric patterns, such as those in the work of Esther Mahlangu. Pupils will be using these patterns to inspire their own printing, painting and pattern making.

Geography learning in Willow class will focus on map making and fieldwork.

In Maths Year 2 will learn about length, height, mass, capacity, temperature and fractions.

In English this term we will read Winnie the Wilbur at Chinese New Year. We will base our writing on Mama Panya's Pancakes: A Village Tale from Kenya and The Minpins by Roald Dahl.

In Science pupils will be learning about plants, their structure and how they grow.

P.E is on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Net and Wall Games and Fitness are our units this term.

In Computing we will explore the concept of Creating Media- Digital Music.

In Religious Education our ‘Big Question’ is: In what ways is the Synagogue important to Jews?’

In PSHE our unit is:  Being My Best.

In Music, our learning is focused around one song: “Friendship Song” and children will learn to sing, play, improvise, compose with this song. Children will listen and appraise other songs. 

Helping Your Child at Home

Children are expected to constantly read and develop their phonic knowledge as well as handwriting and spellings.
