Chestnut Class Term 5

In Maths we will be learning about statistics and the properties of shape.

In English we will practice writing in a range of styles focusing on the use of formal language when writing. We will also be reading a text that links with our previous History topic of The Mayans. We will write in the same style as the author.

In Science we will be continue learning about Earth and space. We will describe the movement of the Earth and other planets relative to the Sun in the solar system. We will begin a unit of work on electricity.                                     

In Geography, we will be learning about North America, including biomes.

In History, Chestnut class will be learning about the Kingdom of Benin. 

In Art, Year 6 will be discussing examples of work by Banksy and preparing their own stencils ready for screen printing.

In DT, Chestnut class will be competing their textiles unit: combining fabric shapes.

In PE and sport, we will be learning the rules and strategies involved in football with our sports coaches and netball with Mrs Heath.

In Computing this term, we will bring together elements of all the four programming constructs: sequence, repetition selection and variables. We will use all of these constructs in a different, but still familiar environment, while also utilising a physical device — the micro:bit.

In Music we will be continuing our brass music lessons with Mr Probert from the Oxford Music Service.

In Religious Education we are asking the big question: ‘What might a Hindu gain from a pilgrimage to India?’

In French we will be learning the vocabulary associated with sports and the Olympics.
