What do governors do?
The role of the Governing Body is to provide strategic management and act as a “critical friend”, supporting the work of the Headteacher and other Staff, and to make the school accountable to the public for what it does.
In practice the governors are responsible for ensuring that the school is run effectively, acting within the framework set by legislation. The Headteacher has responsibility for the internal organisation, management and control of the school. Governors are not expected to take detailed decisions regarding the day-to-day management of the school. The Headteacher will discuss all the main aspects of school life with the governors and will expect them to both challenge and support the school to do better. The governing body takes a strategic view, determines policies, plans and targets and monitors and evaluate results.
The structure of the governing body at Launton School is provided below and shows the subcommittees responsible for specific areas, including Resources, Performance and Standards, Performance Management Panel and more.
